Car Buying Tips

Know What to Do with Your Old Car

When you decide to buy a new car, you probably have thought of how you would deal with your current (soon to be old) car. If your car is not too old (less than 10 years old) and is in good condition, you should be able to trade it for cash, which can be used to purchase your new car. This will only work if you work with the same dealer from the beginning.

If your car is too old or if the dealer refuses to buy it, there are still other places to consider. Contact local used car dealers and ask for their quote. Even if your car is totally broken down, you can still sell it as scrap, which should actually come as a last resort. Sites like Craigslist make it easy for car sellers to find matching buyers whether in the same city or on the other end of the country.

For people who have children that go to school, most of them consider keeping their old cars for their kids. This is a great option if you have extra space in your garage. But remember that keeping more vehicles means more maintenance fees and insurance costs.
